Really happy to finally have some time to get this one up online. Its from a trio sound drawing session with Naomi Kendrick and Dan Bridgwood Hill which was recorded last August by Sam Weaver with Video and Stills by Andrew Brooks. This playing together formed a larger part of an Arts Council England project Naomi was working on which you can read about here. The sound released here is kind of a nice left over, the main outcome was to have quality audio to use in the short film below. Have done many sessions in duo with various guests with Dan over time working in this slowly evolving, post rock drone out sort of manner and its really nice to have one that folks can hear.
Thanks to Paddy for this.
Is going to be a really busy one, two really exciting performances and a bookfair!
Exhibiting zines/records/cds and my new zine of birdsong drawings on Friday 12th & Saturday 13th at Manchester Artists Bookfair.
Then making music for the performance/installation ‘The Dreaming’ with Bekke Platt and Aliyah Hussain on the Saturday @ 2pm as part of Emergency in Castlefield Gallery. The excellent image above was taken during rehersal for that project.
Finally after the bookfair on the Saturday will be a music drawing performance with Naomi Kendrick and Dan Bridgwood-Hill @ Whitworth Gallery. We’re on about 9pm also on the bill is sound project from Huw Bunford from Super Furry Animals & artist Naomi Kashiwagi.
Short piece from performance on Tuesday improvising at the Creative Hive event with Naomi Kendrick drawing, Dan Bridgwood-Hill on synth and Paddy Baxter filming. The film here taken by Andrew Brooks. All happen in an amazing television studio inside the Salford University chunk of Media City.
This excerpt is from the second much calmer piece we did that afternoon. The first one brought up some pretty interesting questions within the group of us working together which I’m interested to explore more in future performances. Mainly around the nature of sounds Naomi maybe be making as she draws, the idea of silence and space in our performances and the idea of accepting that the nature of the work we are making may sometimes require it to failure or collapse publicly in performance. There was also talk about busking which I’m rather excited about!
Great documentation of performance of Naomi Kendrick drawing improvised sounds by myself and Dan Bridgwood-Hill at the opening of her show @ Blankspace in Manchester in July. Filmed by Insa Langhorst, just spotted a brilliant short she made of the LBO in Wigan which somehow works as a snatch of oldtime silent comedy!
Couple of shots from the excellent Blank Media opening last week, DBH and I improvising for Naomi Kendrick to draw to.
See a different set here taken by Andrew Brooks.
Naomi has some interesting reflections on this kind of thing here on her blog.
